Lux Redux - An ongoing project where studio geeks and musicians with multitrack systems are invited to remix the Luxury's songs - no holds barred as long as the original song still shines through in some way. Here's what we have -
Rockets and Wrecking Balls (Primechuq remix) - A new, almost dub beat and droning, synth-like ebow guitars dress up Rockets in a suit of slow, syrupy prog splendor. The breakdown is especially noteworthy - but describing it would ruin the surprise. Listen and enjoy.
Let Go (Dr. Hangman Remix) - Dr. Hangman channels Mutemath and Chemical Brothers on this ripped-up, in-your-face dance music that somehow takes the most energetic song on the record and makes it about 3 times as energetic. The track sizzles.
Seven Stories (M.C. Hangover Remix) - M.C. Hangover extracts everything vaguely organic from the song and replaces it with the most 80's disco-infused dance track you've heard since the Pet Shop Boys. You'll laugh at first, but nearly everyone winds up dancing to this track in spite of their "better judgement" or "musical taste".
Rockets and Wrecking Balls (Hooray For Earth Remix) - Hooray For Earth, one of Boston's best rock outfits, are known for bizarre synth arrangements and crushing, nigh-impossible beats. The flavor they bring to this fairly mellow, epic track on the record is one of ghost-in-the-machine synths floating along then head first into a wall of distorted drums and guitars that sounds vaguely like Led Zeppelin smashing through a building.
So Easy (Alive with Pleasure Remix) - Alive With Pleasure snips up and mixes around the original guitar and vocal signals to create a brand new song - without actually adding anything new. The result is fantastic, a Doves-like guitar pad beneath a haunting rearrangement of the vocal melodies.
Let Go (Onlyone Remix) - Onlyone, a solo musician and member of the online-only group Funf with a penchant for the outlandish, drops Let Go into a different key and arranges it in half-time. The song takes on a new and warped existence in his downbeat bizarro remix. By far the most twisted remix in the collection so far.
Stillborn Symphony (Dr. Hangman Remix) - Dr. Hangman drops in again with a dreary, atmospheric remix of the most depressing song on the album, somehow making it MORE depressing. Quite a feat. The reversal of the piano in the verses creates a whole new melodic feel.
